Film Poster 2.

The main poster for Insidious movie is very effective and has many different ways that it can show its a horror movie. As you scan over the poster you mainly see the background and for this poster there is a young boy standing in front of a house, it looks like its night and it could rain. In the background there is a house that he's standing in front of, its dull and just has subtle colours, there isn't anything from inside the house that you can see. This is effective as it draws you more to the boy and the clouds, this causes a build up and you start puzzling what it could be about. The picture of the little boy is a dark photo and there is no brightness this causes the shadows on his face to stand out causing a creepiness about him. His eyes stand out the most on his body as the lighting shines off of his pupils and it makes them appear very white. This is effective as it draws you into his eyes and that's when you realise his eyes are very big and they don't appear to be normal human eyes, this causes confusion and puzzling in the audience as they don't know why they are like that. The house in the background seems dark like there is no life in the building, all the windows are either closed or have curtains shut so you can see inside, both of these are effective as it makes you wonder what happened as there is only a young boy outside the house and what seems like no life inside or outside, having a dull house in the background is good because it doesn't draw you to the further background and it doesn't take the attention away from the young boy in the centre of the poster. The titles are arranged very differently from any film poster, they are arranged portrait rather than landscape, this then follows up on the other parts the posters tell you. It follows on and says "from the makers of Paranormal Activity and Saw." this is effective as you know roughly who the producers and editors are and what films they have done before and the audience can find out whether they were a hit or a miss in the box office. If the other films the producer has made were a hit it looks good on the new movie and that could be what brings in new range of audience, this is effective as you have a wider range of the audience and you are bringing in new people. The paragraph at the bottom of the poster includes the actors and actresses that are starring in the movie and after all the actors are spoke about it says in bold writing "in theatres everywhere april 1" all of this is effective as people know the people that are playing in the movie and then after they have read that they get told that the film comes out everywhere on April 1st, which means they know when they can see the movie and they know if there are actors in the movie that they like.
Overall I think this poster is effective as there is mainly only 1 attraction on the poster and everything revolves around that, this is how they get the great layout on the poster with no over crowding and no under-crowding and they have the perfect amount. Its not one of the best posters ive seen as it doesn't have as much as I would have liked as it doesn't really tell you that much about the movie and that could be why the audience don't think it would be a good film and maybe that could be why some don't go and watch it.
