Film Poster 1.

This poster is a main poster and includes all the facts and dates about when the movie is coming out and what famous actors are featuring in it. It also includes, a few quotes about the woman in black. This is all effective as you will know nearly everything about the film and when the release date is, for the audience everything they need to know for them to decide whether they are going to go and watch it or not.

There are key images involved in the poster, there is a large one of the woman in black's shadow in the background that looks intimidating and through the middle of her body there are quotes which are about her which makes her more scary and gives off an eerie feel. The background in which the setting is taken place, it looks like an old house with creaky flooring and old wallpaper. The reason they use this background is because the house in which it is set is an old house that new people have moved into and its meant to act as abandoned so it has to seem old. There is a little boy sitting on the floor just in front of the woman in black's shadow, he looks scared as he is facing the woman in black and he seems petrified as his face is pale and emotionless and he is holding a toy very tight. I find the silhouette of the woman in black effective as the key part of the poster as it fills up quite a bit of the poster and is what everyone see's first when they look at it. As the woman has a very dark shadow on the wall and its the darkest thing on the poster the editor put the names of the actors/actresses on the torso of the woman's body and everything else revolves around that. The little boy sitting in the centre on the floor is half of the portion of the woman and because the shadow appears larger he looks very small and he's petrified as he's clutching his toy. This is effective as it shows that its a horror movie and presents this through the facial reaction on the little boys face and his body language, you can also very slightly see the woman in black face. This is effective as it presents that is a horror movie even more and this is then showing the audience that its a very daunting horror movie and it wouldn't be suitable for someone who doesn't like horror's. To have everything underneath 2 of the main characters is effective as its presented on the floor and that's where one of the characters are and then the woman in black above him. I find it effective that everything is presented central and all in line with each other as then viewing the poster would be easier to see and understand. The writing is white because its the opposite colour of black and that's what makes it stand out, this is effective as the audience would find it easier to read the words and description of the movie, it catches your eye as its one of the only bright things on this poster. There are a few lines that are presented in the colour red but the blood shade of red. This would be because there could be blood or killing in the movie and that gives of that hint. The main bit that stands out to me is 'Angel of Death' this is because its almost central and is near the scared child and whilst looking at the child you see It in the corner of your eye and then it draws you in. The quote could mean that there are people that came off as angels and were always good but then they turn and start killing.

Overall, I think this is a great poster and is very effective. It's simple but has a lot of reasons behind the words and picture, these are always the ones that stand out to the audience and people find they like the best. This is also one of my favourite movie posters because it doesn't have too much on the poster but the things it does have are very effective and you get a feel for the movie and realise that its one of the scariest horror movies there are.
